Application and Measurement of Asynchronous Motors

Jul 19, 2024

The rotor winding of asynchronous motors is divided into squirrel cage rotor and wound rotor. Squirrel cage rotor: The rotor winding is inserted into the rotor slot

(1) Composed of multiple guide bars and two circular end rings. If the shape of the entire winding after removing the rotor iron core resembles a squirrel cage, it is called a cage winding. Small cage type motors use cast aluminum rotor windings, and for motors above 100KW, copper bars and copper end rings are welded together. The squirrel cage rotor is divided into several types: impedance rotor, single squirrel cage rotor, double squirrel cage rotor, and deep slot rotor, each with different characteristics such as starting torque.

(2) Wound rotor: The wound rotor winding is similar to the stator winding and is also a symmetrical three-phase winding. It is generally connected in a star shape, with three output heads connected to the three collector rings of the shaft, and then connected to the external circuit through electric brushes.

Asynchronous motors have the advantages of simple structure, easy manufacturing, low price, reliable operation, convenient maintenance, and easy speed regulation when used in conjunction with frequency converters. Therefore, they are widely used in driving production machinery such as metal cutting machines, cranes, conveyor belts, low-power water pumps, and ventilation fans.

Due to the need to absorb inductive reactive power from the power grid during the operation of asynchronous motors, the output mechanical power is very small during no-load testing. The motor input current is mainly used to establish excitation, and the power factor is low. Therefore, it is necessary to use testing instruments that can accurately perform measurement tasks at low power factors. Based on years of experience in designing, producing, installing, and debugging various motor test benches, Hunan Yinhe Electric Co., Ltd. has specially designed standardized products such as WP4000 high-precision power analyzer to meet the testing needs of three-phase asynchronous motors, achieving high-precision measurement in the range of 0.05~1 power factor.

When an asynchronous motor is running, there is relative motion between the rotating magnetic field in the air gap and the rotor winding. By relying on electromagnetic induction, the rotor winding induces current and generates electromagnetic torque, thereby achieving the conversion of electromechanical energy. Due to the unequal speed between the rotor and the rotating magnetic field, it is called an asynchronous motor. Because its rotor current is generated by electromagnetic induction, asynchronous motors are also known as induction motors.
