Differences in Structure Between Ordinary Motors and Variable Frequency Motors

Apr 26, 2023

01. Higher insulation level requirements

The insulation level of general variable frequency motors is F level or higher, and the strength of ground insulation and wire turn insulation should be strengthened, especially considering the ability of insulation to withstand impulse voltage.

02. Higher requirements for vibration and noise of variable frequency motors

Variable frequency motors should fully consider the rigidity of the motor components and the overall structure, and strive to increase their natural frequency to avoid resonance with various force waves.

03. Different cooling methods for variable frequency motors

Variable frequency motors generally use forced ventilation cooling, that is, the main motor cooling fan is driven by an independent motor.

04. Different requirements for protective measures

For variable frequency motors with a capacity exceeding 160KW, bearing insulation measures should be taken. The main reason is that it is prone to magnetic circuit asymmetry and also generates shaft current. When the currents generated by other high-frequency components combine, the shaft current will greatly increase, leading to bearing damage. Therefore, insulation measures are generally taken. For constant power variable frequency motors, when the speed exceeds 3000/min, special high-temperature resistant lubricating grease should be used to compensate for the temperature rise of the bearings.

05. Different heat dissipation systems

The variable frequency motor cooling fan adopts an independent power supply to ensure continuous cooling capacity.
