1. Selection principle of circuit breaker for motor protection

(1) According to the rated current of the motor, determine the overall value of the long-term operating current of the circuit breaker.

(2) Instantaneous rectification current: For the circuit breaker protecting the cage motor, the instant rectification current is equal to (8 to 15) times the rated current of the motor, depending on the type, capacity and starting conditions of the cage motor to be protected. For the circuit breaker of the wound rotor motor, the instantaneous overall current is equal to (3 to 6) times the rated current of the motor, depending on the type, capacity and starting conditions of the rotor motor to be protected.

(3) The recovery time of the circuit breaker's 6 times longer operating current setting value is longer than the actual starting time of the motor.

For example, a Y160M-4 type 11kW motor should be equipped with a DZ5-50 type circuit breaker with a thermal release rated current of 25A from the quick look-up table.
