Working System of Electric Motors
Jun 12, 2023
In order to facilitate users in selecting motor power in different situations and make full use of the selected motor, the motor is divided into three working systems: continuous, short-term, and intermittent based on its heating characteristics during operation.
(1) Continuous working system refers to the working mode in which the temperature rise of the motor can reach a steady-state temperature rise when the operating time L is very long when the motor is running with rated load. Continuous duty motors are widely used in production practice.
(2) Short time working system refers to the short running time of an electric motor with rated load, which results in the temperature rise of the motor not reaching the steady-state temperature rise; The working mode where the shutdown time is long and the temperature rise of the motor can be reduced to zero. The electric motor for dragging the gate often adopts a short-term working system.
(3) Intermittent duty cycle refers to the short operating time of an electric motor under rated load, which prevents the temperature rise of the motor from reaching the steady-state temperature rise;
The stopping time is also very short, making the temperature rise of the motor less than zero, and the working cycle is less than 10 minutes. The percentage of working time in the working cycle is called the load duration. Electric motors that require frequent starting and braking often use intermittent duty motors, such as those used to drive elevators and cranes.
The selection of motor rated power is to calculate the load power PL based on the actual production machinery load diagram, then pre select the motor based on PL, and finally verify the overload capacity and starting capacity of the pre selected motor.
1.Determination of load power: Due to the fact that most of the actual production mechanical loads vary over time, this type of load is now taken as an example to illustrate.
2. Pre selection of motor rated power: The power absorbed by the motor from the power source must be converted into mechanical power to supply the load and consumed internally by the motor. There are constant and variable losses inside the motor. The constant loss does not change with the change of load current. The variable loss is related to the load current and is proportional to the square of the load current. When the load current increases, the variable loss should increase, and the rated power of the motor should also be selected accordingly.
