Composition of the Motor

May 30, 2023

The composition of a motor usually includes parts such as the stator, rotor, armature, and permanent magnet.

Stator: A stationary part fixed inside the casing. The stator is generally composed of a certain number of electromagnetic windings, iron cores, and brackets. The electromagnetic winding is wound around the iron core, which generates a magnetic field that is the main source of power for the motor to work. The iron core plays a role in concentrating the magnetic field and enhancing magnetic flux, while the bracket plays a role in supporting the stator.

Rotor: The rotating part. The main function of the rotor is to generate mechanical work. The rotor is generally composed of an iron core, electromagnetic winding, and shaft. In an AC motor, the rotor is a rod made of conductors, fixed on the shaft, supported and rotated by bearings. In a DC motor, the rotor is composed of an armature and a collector brush.

Armature: In a DC motor, the armature is composed of a certain number of conductor coils, which are symmetrically wound on the iron core to form multiple equally spaced coils. When direct current is applied, the current in the conductor coil generates a magnetic field that interacts with the stator magnetic field, causing the motor to rotate.

Permanent Magnet: In permanent magnet synchronous motors and brushless DC motors, permanent magnets are composed of a certain number of permanent magnet magnets. These magnets generate a magnetic field that interacts with the stator magnetic field, causing the motor to rotate.

In addition, the motor also includes parts such as the casing, bearings, and cooling system.

A motor usually consists of the following components:

Stator (also known as stator or rotor): Consisting of an iron core and winding, it is a stationary part.

Rotor (also known as moving rotor): Consisting of an iron core and winding, it can rotate.

Magnetic pole (also known as pole pair): Usually a magnet arranged alternately on the stator and rotor.

Terminal box: A component that connects the motor winding to the power supply.

Bearing: A component that supports the rotor and reduces friction.

Fan: A component used for heat dissipation.
