Starting Method of Three-phase Motor

1) The advantages of direct startup are fewer devices required, simpler startup method, and lower cost. The current at which the motor starts directly is about 5 times that of normal operation.

2) By using an autotransformer for step-down starting, the starting current and starting torque of the motor are reduced proportionally to the square of its terminal voltage. Under the same starting current, a larger starting torque can be obtained.

3) The Y-△ step-down starting stator winding of an electric motor with △ connection is connected to Y during startup, and when the speed approaches the rated speed, it switches to △ operation.

4) The rotor series resistor starts the wound three-phase asynchronous motor, and the rotor winding is connected to the resistor through a sliding ring. The external series resistance increases the internal resistance of the rotor winding, reducing the induced current of the rotor winding.

5) A soft starter is a novel motor control device that integrates motor soft start, soft stop, light load energy-saving, and multiple protection functions. It is called a soft starter abroad.

6) A frequency converter is a device that converts AC power with fixed voltage and frequency into AC power with variable voltage or frequency.

The magnetic field in single-phase asynchronous motors is different from the rotating magnetic field in three-phase asynchronous motors.
