However, asynchronous motors also have their drawbacks. Asynchronous motors must absorb outdated reactive power from the grid, so their power factor is always less than 1. Due to the fact that asynchronous motors are the most common load in the power grid, the outdated reactive power they require is a heavy burden on the grid, which increases transmission losses and hinders the output of active power. When the load requires a large single motor capacity and the power factor of the grid is relatively low. It is better to use synchronous motors for dragging.

Asynchronous motors are classified according to the number of phases in the stator winding: single-phase asynchronous motors and three-phase asynchronous motors. When there is no three-phase power supply or when the required power is very low, a single-phase motor should be used. The power of a single-phase motor generally does not exceed 3-4 kilowatts and is commonly used in daily life. One type is squirrel cage asynchronous motor, whose rotor winding is shaped like a cage.

In squirrel cage asynchronous motors, there are several types: single squirrel cage, double squirrel cage, and deep slot; Another type is the wound asynchronous motor, whose rotor winding and stator winding are basically the same, also three-phase winding, which can be connected into a star or triangle shape.
